Toronto Centre PC Progressive Conservatives

About the Toronto Centre Provincial PC Association

We are the Progressive Conservative party of Ontario and we believe:

  • that all Ontarians who have the ability to work and contribute to our society should have a government that encourages them to find jobs and improve their lives. We believe everyone deserves a ‘hand up’ to succeed.
  • that we must ensure and protect access to quality health care and education.
  • that we must passionately conserve and protect our environment.
  • that government is a business that must be run in a fiscally responsible, ethical and transparent manner.
  • that lower taxes and smaller government encourage growth and prosperity.
  • that there is one law for everyone and that law must be respected and enforced in the same way for each of us.
  • we also understand that some Ontarians have challenges due to circumstances beyond their control and government should be there to help them. We must have compassion and care for society’s most vulnerable members.
  • it is people who hold the keys to democracy not politicians

The history books show that over the years the Progressive Conservative party of Ontario has been and continues to be the party responsible for all major social advances in Ontario. These include creating the first welfare system, and developing health facilities and highways. We created the first old age pension in Ontario in cooperation with the federal government.

Progressive Conservative governments have passed some of the most progressive labour and social legislation in Canadian history, including the first labour code and the first anti-discrimination legislation in Canada.

Progressive Conservative governments also created the Ontario Hospital Insurance Program (OHIP), the provision of equal pay for women, and were responsible for the vast expansion of hospitals, schools and highways.

Progressive Conservative governments created and established community colleges — a bold and innovative step in the education field. Most modern Ontario universities were built by Progressive Conservative governments as well.

Progressive Conservative governments have developed socially progressive legislation touching on practically every aspect of life — medicare, public transit, mental health programs and ecology.

Progressive Conservatives believe in the need for socially progressive programs paid for by a fiscally responsible government. We also believe that government has a responsibility to encourage the growth of small business and of a robust private sector economy, in order to create jobs and prosperity for all.
