The following is a statement by Ontario PC Leader Tim Hudak recognizing the Republic Day of India:

“On this day, Ontarians of Indian heritage celebrate the adoption of their native country’s first constitution as a republic.

“Over 60 years later, this cherished document has safeguarded values of justice, liberty and equality for all citizens.

“Today, Ontario is home to many residents of Indian descent, having settled in cities like Mississauga, Brampton and Toronto.

“These newcomers to Canada brought with them a genuine appreciation for our shared respect of democracy, the rule of law and individual freedom.

“Indo-Canadians have made important contributions to Ontario because of these founding principles. Our province is better for it.”
